Yeah, it's a little plot-deviceivly vague with no description at all. Still, it would likely have to be something pretty specific to be able to make any good guess. Even if it's clearly an infection, if it's viral, for example, antibiotics aren't going to work. It certainly wouldn't be a waste of time developing them, though.
